Before making a donation, consumers should verify the legitimacy of nonprofit organizations by confirming the groups existence and its nonprofit status rather than following an unsolicited link to your email. Open attachments only from known senders. Make contributions directly to organizations you know. Do not give your personal or financial information to anyone who calls you or online solicitations. Providing such information may compromise your identity and make you vulnerable to identity theft or online viruses.
